Regina, SK(June 25,2018)–Fourth generation grain and oilseed farmers, Jordan and Jennifer Lindgren use field size trials to maximize production while minimizing costs on their farm located at Norquay, Saskatchewan. The couple was named Saskatchewan’s Outstanding Young Farmers for 2018. The winners were announced at the Saskatchewan regional event held in conjunction with Canada’s Farm Progress Show on June 21 with 185 in attendance.
The Lindgren’s feel sharing information with fellow farmers is very important. Each year they partner with agriculture distributors, to host a “Field of Dreams” tour on their farm that showcases new genetics, applications, and fertilizer rates. Jordan and Jennifer also feel educating the next generation is important. They have developed an interactive “Food Farm” day for Grade 3 and 4 students in hopes that they will understand where their food comes from.
Jordan and Jennifer value their four children and take pride in being able to continue their century old farm and family values in this ever changing corporate farm environment.
The Saskatchewan Region of Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers Program were pleased to have Sask Minister of Agriculture, Hon. Lyle Stewart and Sask Conservative Caucus Chair, MP Randy Hoback as well Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmer’s Program President, Carl Marquis from Quebec, in attendance to honour the three couples at their 2018 Regional Event. The couples recognized were: Michael & Jessica Lovich- Balgonie, Lee & Shannon Sluser- Glenavon, and winners Jordan & Jennifer Lindgren- Norquay.
“All of the Saskatchewan nominees were outstanding, just in different ways”, stated Past President, Luanne Lynn of Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmer Program. “Saskatchewan agriculture is in good hands as is evidenced by the three nominees’ drive, determination, and passion for their career.”
Celebrating 38 years, Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers’ program is an annual competition to recognize farmers that exemplify excellence in their profession and promote the tremendous contribution of agriculture. Open to participants 18 to 39 years of age, making the majority of income from on-farm sources, participants are selected from seven regions across Canada, with two national winners chosen each year. The program is sponsored nationally by CIBC, John Deere, Bayer, and Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada through Growing Forward 2, a federal, provincial, territorial initiative. The national media sponsor is Annex Business Media, and the program is supported nationally by AdFarm, BDO and Farm Management Canada.
Canada’s Outstanding Young Farmers for 2018 will be chosen at the National Event in Winnipeg, MB from November 29 – December 3, 2018.
